10 Food to Eat Your Way to Healthy Skin
Beauty in the since of vanity is not just what we paint our faces with or drape on our bodies. It starts with what we ingest.
Timeless skin. This seems to be the plight of many women these days and although there are many options out there, do you ever find yourself asking “what is really going to work?” Your food intake directly effects your skin’s appearance so you need to make sure you are eating healthy, collagen producing foods on a regular basis. Here is a cheat sheet of foods that can help keep your skin looking and feeling young by assisting in boosting the production of collagen.
Before we get started on, one product that I swear by is Matriskin Collagen MP Serum, which promotes collagen generation and works well for all skin types. You can see for yourself the stellar reviews that it has gotten plus over 600 case studies. This is a great step in the right direction but the truth is that it is as important to take care of your skin from the inside as it is the outside.
Dark green vegetables, including spinach and kale are bursting with Vitamin C, causing an increase in collagen production in your body. Try out my SuperFood Power Green Salad. It’s sure to please your belly and your skin.
We have all heard of the magic of Omega 3 Fatty Acids, usually from fish. Well, add another thing to the list because they are good for your skin as well. Each of our skin cells has a fatty membrane around it and Omega 3s make them stronger. Stronger cell membranes means healthy cells that can support your skin’s structure, so try to make fish a regular part of your diet. I not only eat ocen caught fresh fish but I supplement daily with the Heart Health Omega Oil capsules and my children take Might-a-mins spectrum fish oils.
Here is yet another reason to make berries a part of your regular diet. Not only are they sweet and juicy, but they increase collagen levels in your body as well as hunt free radicals, keeping your skin strong and clear. For an even more yummy way to get your daily dose of berries, try my Whole Wheat Blueberry Bran Muffin recipe. Even though we buy organic berries regularly I make sure I get 9 servings of dark purple fruit daily by supplementing with ORAC.
Oranges, grapefruit, lemons and limes are another food very high in Vitamin C. Not only that but they help convert certain amino acids to collagen! I personally love peeling a fresh grapefruit or orange and eating it as is but limes and lemons are great in dressings and beverages like tea or water. We keep Isotonic vitamin C at all times to take a couple caps anytime allergy season is in full swing, and my children take it almost daily to viruses and colds at bay.
Who doesn’t love eggs? The whites of eggs are high in collagen itself, as well as proline and lysine, the amino acids that your body converts to collagen. Give my Breakfast Turkey Enchilada recipe a whirl to get your dose of eggs today. Just try to make sure they are coming from a free range farm and are fed an organic diet, non GMO feed for the healthiest option.
Oysters do much more than give a boost to your libido! They also have a huge amount of zinc in them and lots of zinc means lots of collagen production.
As one of the best sources of sulfur, garlic is not only a natural immune booster but also a large help in collagen production. Garlic also provides lipoic acid and taurine that help rebuild damaged collagen fibers. Besides it make everything taste good!
Carrots and sweet potatoes OH MY! These yummy orange veggies are packed with Vitamin A which is instrumental in regenerating damaged collagen. Red veggies, on the other hand have Lycopene, which acts as a natural sunblock, protecting skin from damage. You can get a good dose of both orange and red veggies in my Roasted Veggie Root Mix recipe.
The great soy debate may continue for eternity but one benefit is certain. Soy assists in collagen production and blocks aging enzymes, such as MMPs. Just try to find non GMO…
According to recent studies, white tea may protect the structural proteins of the skin, including collagen. Tea is just all around good for you since it is healing, relaxing, and great for digestion.
