NOURISH YOUR BODY WITH THE RIGHT FOODS

thursday2You’ve heard the saying, “food is fuel” right? Well take a look at how you feel when you eat pizza. BLAH! Or a big sandwich and chips, zzzzzzzz. Or how about what’s coming… Thanksgiving!!! Dressing, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole…Nap central right?

The reason you  feel the uncontrollable urge to go to sleep after eating a big meal is because all of your energy in your stomach is trying to break down all the dead food. When food is cooked over 110 degrees, it cooks out all the natural enzymes so it’s technically been “cooked to death.” It doesn’t take much to destroy the natural enzymes in fresh food.

If you eat raw, your body doesn’t have to do much for digestion. It’s still alive if you will. That’s why when you eat a salad or fresh raw food, it disappears quickly and you don’t feel like your energy is zapped. In fact, you feel energized because you have given your body fuel. Steaming is the next best thing. Lightly stir-frying, but baking and slow cooking veggies. You can also eat them from a can would not be the best way to keep your energy level up.

We eat to nourish our body. The essential vitamins and minerals we consume give our cells energy with ability to heal, keeping our bodies young. We need fiber to cleanse the internal system. Fiber also keeps our blood sugar from spiking, keeping you lean. There is virtually no fiber in most processed foods. Eating is not about stopping your stomach from growling or to fill the cavity with something. It is critical that you give your body nutrition to nourish the cells and give you a long disease-free energetic lifestyle. So, the next time you are making a choice on what you should eat, think about how it will make you feel. Is it worth feeling bad? Better yet…just glue the donut to your thighs because that’s where it’s going anyway!

Eat clean for a well-oiled machine!
