POMEGRANATE LAVENDER FIZZIES
After a long weekend of training adults and my girlfriend in town, we got the idea to whip up some special infusions! We were thinking basil infused cucumber vodka or lime and mint mojitos with rum. The kids were looking at me like “where’s mine??”
Since they can’t have alcohol but wanted something fancy, I made the kids some alcohol free “special drinks,” as they like to call them! Pomegrante Lavender Fizzies are more my speed than a Shirley Temple.
I used lavender dry soda instead of sprite, since we don’t really drink soft drinks. I usually use soda water or seltzer if I want something sparkling. Dry sodas are less sweet, max 70 calories, have whole ingredients, and you can control the sweetness with other ingredients. You can also substitute flavored seltzers or naturally flavored fizzy beverages. Below is the brand I used and love from Dry Soda Co. You can pick it up at Healthy stores like Earth Fare, Whole Foods, even Harris Teeter or online https://bit.ly/1cmeogQ.
I always keep some natural syrup around to sweeten cocktails or make homemade sparkling water for the kids so this substituted the grenadine. I use a concentrated pomegranate beverage elixir from Earth & Vine Provisions. They are always coming up with fun flavors and they are 100% natural and only 3 ingredients, water, cane sugar and pomegranate concentrate. https://www.earthnvine.com
Here’s a guide of what to mix, and you can alter however you’d like:
fill cup 3/4 full with a dry soda (I used a lavender flavor)
A splash of flavored simple syrup (this one was a pomegranate syrup with all natural ingredients)
Raspberries
Fresh mint
Rocksugar stirrer ( just because the children loved stirring and eating the stirrer after!)
**For adults add whatever clear alcohol you’d like (tequila, vodka, white rum)
Having a “special drink” is more than just about making a cocktail or a Shirley Temple, it’s about making memories that are made with love. Enjoy your special moments with your special people. Food will always be a part of that, just make sure it’s whole foods without added chemicals and unnecessary nonsense. You’ll find it tastes better, you feel better and your body will thank you later.
(Psst! They never get candy so a little sugar once in a blue moon is ok in my book if it’s the real kind! It’s great for bribing for them to clean their room. It’s amazing what kids will do for a special drink! And it’s a lot of fun. That’s what life is about now isn’t it? Enjoy!!)
