How to Get Rid of Winter Congestion

If you are like what seems like the majority of the population, you have been having some congestion lately. Especially if you have small children who just started school or you go to a gym on a regular basis.  It’s a cesspool of germs and if your body is not naturally equipped to ward of infection then you’ll need some help.

When you’ve been exposed to germs repeatedly and end up sick and uncomfortable that are lots of natural remedies to aid your body in the healing and detoxing process.  My family and I regularly take Isotonix OPC-3, ORAC and Vitamin C and more when exposed to winter colds.  They are natural anti-histamines and positively amazing.  I can’t imagine how sick we would be all the time it would be if we didn’t drink our Custom Cocktail every morning.  Supplements are really important to lessen the severity and longevity of colds, flu and allergies.  With everyone around us sick and having a hard time shaking the congestion and illness this season we are turning to supplementation to amp up our immune systems.  We just don’t get what we need from food anymore especially if it’s not organic.

Besides supplementing your diet with natural antihistamines, one of my favorite remedies to help get rid of congestion is a eucalyptus facial steam. It’s so simple and you have most of the things you need laying around your house. If you don’t have eucalyptus oil, have no fear. It is usually available at your nearest natural food store or you can buy online like I do.

What you’ll need:

  • A tea kettle or other means of making about 5 cups of very hot water
  • 5 cups of water
  • A large bowl or pot
  • A large fabric towel
  • Eucalyptus oil

Great! You’re ready for some relief!

  1. First you will need to heat up your water.
  2. Once it is heated, pour it into a pot or large bowl.
  3. Put 2-3 drops of eucalyptus oil into the water.
  4. Place your head about arm’s length from the pot/bowl and put the towel over your head.
  5. Breathe the vapor for 5-10 minutes. If you feel claustrophobic or lightheaded, come out from under the towel as needed.

Take the towel off and voila! Your congestion should be a little bit better, naturally…
